Sail on a diving adventure to The Philippines
NOTE: THESE ARE BOAT DATES ONLY…airfare/schedule to/from Philippines will be added when timing is appropriate as well as any pre-post hotels required & MANDATORY group trip insurance! We are embarking on a very, very special 14-day, 13-night trip to The Philippines in 2010 that will cover the BEST of the diving there, including the remote UNESCO World Heritage Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park as well as the more frequently dive areas of the Philippines. Here is our proposed (weather dependent, of course) itinerary!
Diving will commence on May 5 and we will spend the first 5 days of our trip there diving amongst some of the most beautiful reefs in the world. The shallow reef tops are teeming with local reef fish and may include: immature Manta Rays, turtles, leopard sharks, guitar sharks, stingrays & spiny lobsters. The walls are covered in huge barrel sponges, gorgonian sea fans, soft corals, hydroids & black corals. Moorish Idols, fusiliers, jacks, snappers, sweetlips, angelfish, butterfly fish, pennant banner fish & rainbow runners will follow us around! Large trevally, tuna, barracuda as well as Grey Reef Sharks, Whitetip sharks patrol…Giant manta ray, eagle rays may fly overhead and turtles and groupers (including Napolean Wrasse) may pass by….there’s a rumor that tiger sharks have been seen here as well!
On Day 9 we’ll head for Dumaguete on Negroes. Here’s where the macro diving kicks in high gear! Possible sightings are frogfish, ornate ghost pipefish as well as many other small critters! The Pier is an awesome dive and offers the opportunity to see the elusive Mandarin fish. We’ll do several dives at the Pier and then we’ll head south of Cebu Island for a few dives; then to Siquijor Island for a few more dives and then to Panglao & Balicasag for another day of diving. The 16th of May will find us at Cabilao Island which is particularly noted for sightings of hammerhead sharks. On the 17th of May we’ll do two dives in the morning around Mactan. This area has a few divesites where thresher sharks have been seen, so we can hopefully end the trip on a very, very high note! Our flights out of the Philippines will originate from Cebu and then homeward….. Come join us for an “adventure of a lifetime” on a fantastic brand-new vessel! Only sixteen spaces are available; all cabins have ensuite baths, their own personal computer, audio-visual entertainment system, hairdryers, individual air conditioning controls and mood lighting…very romantic! Laundry service and massage service is available onboard the vessel. There’s a covered outdoor dining area, expansive leisure deck area, air-conditioned salon with cocktail bar, and a 42-inch flat screen TV! Enriched air NITROX is free for all divers certified in its use; if not, the instructors can teach you! Delicious international and Asian cuisine is featured onboard. For you underwater photographers, each cabin has an individual computer station and multiple power sources. A 20-inch high definition flat screen monitor and high-end specifications on the computer will make photo/video editing a breeze and each computer is integrated into the yacht’s network server in the salon! Individual workstations for camera prep and storage are provided with plenty of charging points including 220v & 110v. Large rinse tanks are specifically provided for cameras and housings only. The cost of the BOAT portion only is discounted at $4550.00 per person when paid by cash or check. Credit card pricing is $4750.00/per person. A $1500.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit is required to secure your space. Airfare/insurance will be added when flight information/pricing becomes available at 330 days before travel dates. Final balance will be due 90 days prior to departure and all travelers must have an unexpired passport with SIX MONTHS remaining validity. May 4, 2010, will find us flying into Palawan where we will meet up with the SY Philippine Siren in Puerto Princessa. Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park is about 95 miles from there, so it will be a relatively short sail!
On Day 6 we’ll leave Tubbataha after the 3rd or 4th dive and make a long run to Apo Island. During this run we will hopefully encounter dolphin, do a bit of fishing, lift the sails and stop for a bit of a swim…we arrive on Apo Island early in the morning of Day 8 and we’ll do 6 dives on the best dive sites. ApoIsland is considered by many to be the most successful marine sanctuary in the Philippines. There is a clownfish city here with hundreds of Tomato Anemonefish living together! Manta rays are also common around Apo Island.
