BON BINI, BONAIRE!Trip Report - February 2009We’ve just returned from a great week of diving in one of our favorite Caribbean dive destinations. We had a large group this time, so we totally filled up the dive boat, Reef Freedom. Max and Leo were our dive guides/boat captains and took turns showing everyone the best that the Bonaire reefs have to offer. I Another cool dive was “Just a Nice Dive” over at Klein as well. Hard and soft corals are plentiful and turtles made appearances on almost every dive during the week. The absence of green moray eels concerned us because they had been stricken with an unknown virus several months ago, but several of the group finally managed to spot a couple of them…one of them a very rotund specimen! The trucks got a bit of use during the week as well, with divers heading both North & South for some afternoon shore dives. Sightseeing excursions included the salt piles at Salt Pier, the lighthouse at the South end of the island, Washington-Slagbaii National Park up in the North, the Blo-Kart track over near Rincon and flamingos making close encounters in some of the lakes left behind from the longer-than-usual rainy season. Bonaire was the greenest I’ve ever seen it! Dinners in town were enjoyed at Casablanca, It Rains Fishes, Patagonia, the Lions Den, Cappricio’s, City Café and other restaurants. The Managers Cocktail Party and Week in Review at Habitat featured Moogie and his Bonairian music which everyone boogied to! A week in Bonaire just flies by, it seems. Maybe next time we’ll do two? Watch the website for the next scheduled Bonaire trip and come join us. Dive Travel Services, 29480 Ten Mile Road, Farmington
